About Me

I'm a retired navy Vietnam vet, on VA disability....cancer survivor, Hodgkins in '75, triple bypass on my 65th BD, too many cigarettes. Didn't quit soon enough. Married 24 yrs. And I love Basset hounds. That's Studley at 6 wks taking a nap with me. He won't be doing that in 3 months I have to make a correction here. It's recently come to my attention that my medical problems are most likely the result of exposure to Agent Orange in Vietnam. The reason I hadn't made this association is because I was on a hospital ship, I was exposed treating casualties in triage from the AO on their clothing. No one even considered that until recently. That's why vets have a low opinion of the VA. To them, if you didn't get your arm blown off, it's all about "prove it" and they aren't participating. It's all up to us to find the proof even when it seems self evident. Fortunately I was treated for Hodgkins while still in the Navy so this knowledge is just for future illnesses and cancers caused by AO. Changed pics, Studley's now 15 wks and 3 times his 6 wk size. These boys grow up fast and he's gonna be a big one

Interests:
I'm Brown's fan, that's it. I gave up on baseball and never got into Bball or hockey. My main hobby is gardening and fixing up the home and of course the pets, esp the pup

6-26-08  I’m not keen on journals, so I’ll put in dates when I can and I’ll write as I get the urge.  I jsut updated my profile today with some interesting new facts.   Today’s garbage day, so I gotta go work on that.  We’re also having T-storms and will have to work around them.  OK, so now i have a journal.

6-28-08  For the record,  just because I’ve started a journal, I’m not new to this site and I belong to a DOGS group and visit a dozen.  I suppose I should post a more dignified photo, but the pup is the focus and he doesn’t care how I dress.  That’s a relaxed (asleep) Basset hound.  Too bad the photo program cut down the pic, his ears are hanging half way to the floor.  LOL  And yes I do have  hair.

7-02-08   Boy this summer is going fast.  Two days to Independence Day, the Fourth of July.  The holiday that screws up the summer because it’s not celebrated on Monday.   This year, of course, our wonderful children who chose to stand up for their country in uniform will get a long weekend anyway.    My complaint is that nothing happened on the 4th of July besides the President of the Continental Congress John Hancock signing the Declaration.  No one else signed it until August 2 and it obviously wasn’t published until it was signed, no instant internet then.   So why can’t we just make it the first Monday in July and every year it will be a big celebration.

I was reminded of Kent State when others of our children decided that they could rebel and push the authorities until that terrible accident when some innocent students, not the instigators, died as a result.  I laud the governor of  Ohio for sending in the National Guard, local authorities obviously couldn’t handle the situation.  I was attending class at a branch at the time hoping that the protesters would keep their "peace" rally on campus.  Well it started out to be a peace rally.  I’m only sorry that the people throwing things at the Guardsmen weren’t the ones killed.

Then there’s the VA.  Yes, I think the shiit they put vets through is deplorable.  When I talk about VA Hospital, mostly I only talk about Wade Park in Cleveland, now aka Louis Stokes VAMC.  The only good care I’ve gotten there was my dental and I guess I just got lucky to get a really good dentist, and now i have to go to the old Brecksville Hosp because she got transferred.

So, for Independence Day, I laud the young men and women who have the backbone and patriotism to stand up for what is right even when there are more and more whining about it at home, but the longer the war, the louder the whinning.  It’s  a fact of life.

OH one last thought.  I am a disabled veteran and retired Navy and until the Republicans took full control of Congress and the White house, I was not allowed to collect both retirement and VA disab. as anyone else in the country.   The Democrats shot it down at least 3 times while BJ Billie was pres.  I am drawing 3X as much with Concurrent Receipt as I was under the dummycrats.  THANK YOU G.W.BUSH & the REPUBLICAN PARTY!!

The golf course is on Liberty st. but when you come out of Girard, the Liberty Township sign is on a section that is golf course prop[erty, and my neighbors across the street have very short backyards as there is a green right across the street from my house behind their houses.
