Susie, I regret the picture is a sad reminder for you. The F-4 was not flyable. It was a photo op for visitors at a USAF air show just a few years ago. Although I was a member of the USAF, I was not a pilot.
My brother was a marine pilot and lost his life when his F-4 developed a fuel leak in 1976. He was flying out of El Toro, CA. It was the Air Force pilot he was going to spar with who spotted it on their way out to practice. They were having trouble with the F-4's then as they were ageing, as I understand it. He sure loved to fly.
You're not the first to question why or how or if an old fart is still flying. I'm saving the "and that's the rest of the story(picture)" for a slow day on the board. Besides I'm so busy at present calling attention to Beta problems. The only thing I will admit to is I would not deceive anyone with digital imaging. The F-4 Phantom and OF are real. Both are antiques. LOL
