I'm about five miles from the interstate which in addition to many deer hit by cars claims one or two bears each year attempting to cross. Twenty miles to the north of me is an Elk ranch and a Buffalo ranch. I recently stuffed my freezer with 100 lbs of Buffalo burger and steak from my neighbor lwho has 42 head. Good eating!
Oh Canada! Was up to Rimouski, Quebec two years ago tracing relatives. My paternal grandfather was an illegal alien sneaking across the Detroit River and settling in the upper peninsula of Michigan and thence to Wisconsin.
Wow! What are you, about a half mile from the main road - give or take? Reminds me of rural Manitoba where I grew up - well, until 11 when we moved to California. (Now THAT was culture shock - we 'were' Mennonite and isolated and essentially 19th century. No electricity, no indoor plumbing, wood stove... Did have telephone, operator controlled - the system was 3 rings for ---, 4 rings for --- (and we all listened in to everyone's conversation). Life went from the innocence of no one and nothing except grain fields, farm animals, all your above-mentioned wild critters (add lynx) and family to San Jose and a slam dunk into California city life.)
I'm getting closer everyday to moving back - not to Manitoba (50 below in the winter isn't abnormal), but somewhere that's similar to your life. It's nice to just SEE that life again. Thank you so very much for this photo. I'm copying it and downloading it just so I can keep viewing it.
