Oh, thank you, Alex! I know what you mean. I had a close school chum who was a wonderful Samoan girl named Flo. She wasn't so big as she was powerful...sort of like an Amazon beauty. She once even fought a girl who had threatened me. I remember spending great days in elementary school and middle school in her home. Her grandma spoke very little English. But I knew lots of Scripture and Hymns, which she loved to hear me recite and sing. So, whenever I came over, she lit up like a Christmas tree and said "Hallelujah!" She was beautiful. Our She-roes have made us great women. Thank you for sharing your precious "Freddiegirl" with me Alex!!! I can see her.
Your painting is so beautiful. It reminds os very much of my beloved child- hoodfriend. I will share with you that I grew up in the Broonx in NYC. My best friend her name was Fredrika, I called her Freddiegirl, she called me Aliqueen. I was smaller than Freddie my beloved friend. Freddie always saved my day.
I am dyslexic and more times than not I will mispell or write a little backward.
As a child in Catholic school the kids would poke fun-There was Freddiegirl.
She vactioned in Georgia and I fell in love with her stories. So I wrote a
collection of southern poems to honor her and her ability to give a city kid a vacation. I love the picture you choose for your profile! It looks just like my beautiful childhood friend Freddiegirl. Alex
