In New York after a show one
night, a friend invited me to accompany him to a club where Bette
Midler was performing. She was *fabulous*! Bette was in her
element - running about with her high camp banter, blowing kisses
to all and just being Bette. It was heaven. After her show, I
decided to get up and walk around a bit.
I had just come from work and was
all dressed up and in full make-up. I was excited because it was
my first Bette Midler live show. I rounded a corner and saw a man
in a towel...JUST a towel! As
I rounded the next corner I saw that this man was not alone.
Suddenly I realized that I was
the only one with CLOTHES ON!!! My friend had taken me to the
infamous Continental Baths...the gay men's BATH HOUSE!!! - ROTFLOL
I saw more fannies that night
than Carter had liver pills. I made a hasty
retreat...and nearly beat the stew out of my friend on my way out, LOL.

What a delightful story. I expected a tale of young people and how they dress for certain occasions. And, I am now officially jealous...I love Bette!
You truly have a great story for all the ages. My prayers for your lost friend. My husband worked in NYC and lost several coworkers to AIDS. It is an awful disease.
But, thank you for the laughs...yours, your friend's and mine!

To Nikki, Girl, it was *mayhem* ROTFLOL. You would have enjoyed it too, what a *mess* LOL! To: MadreinSD and AbigailThomas, Thank you for your comments. I did have a lot of fun. And thank you for this topic which allowed me to stroll down memory lane for a bit.
To Rae: Thank you my sweet sister!!! You know me so well. Yes, we laughed uproariously for *years* about this. And it is one of my fondest memories of our "escapes". Unfortunately, I lost him to the aids virus some years ago. He went in the first wave of it. But each time I think of that night and how loud he laughed when I "beat him over the head" with my purse, I am *so* glad that we went. Hugz and much love to you, NV
Dearest Cutie, I can just see you all decked out and the beauty at the ball (Bette's show), I know you, once you knew the situation - you may have tried to beat the stew out of your friend, but I know the two of you have had many a laugh about this one . I'm sure as you wrote this wonderful memoir you my dear had a smile on your face. I love your stories, they are filled with such wonderful color. I am so thankful for you my dear friend. My Sincere Love and Hugz....RaeDi
