My Journals (4)

Isn't it amazing how a community can come together when a need arises?  I love our little town of Klamath Falls, Oregon and today is no exception.

The Klamath Basin Habitat for Humanity learned yesterday that a portion of the donated siding for the home being built by the organization was stolen.  Donations are hard to come by and this siding was donated by a CertainTeed siding company and volunteers had had to drive quite a distance to pick it up.  Because the flooring in the home was being put down, the siding was placed next to the home, outside.  I know that the siding was there unprotected, but not for someone to help themselves to.

Today, one of our local merchants, Parr Lumber, heard of our plight and have donated enough siding to make up for what was taken.  Thank you Parr Lumber!  I will do my part to make certain that I tell all I come in contact with what a great merchant you are.

Hope to have two local DJs on our roles as volunteers very soon.  They came forward on their own and volunteered.  KLADFM is our local country station and has been a pillar of the community for 4 generations.

Somedays I get very discouraged with not having as many shops to pick from as the bigger cities, but today, I'm delighted to live where I do!!!!!!!

Today was WONDERFUL!  My son and his fiance had my husband, my father and I over for a wonderful breakfast--and gifts, of course.  A special, smiling photo of my son and a lovely necklace.  They joined us again for dinner at a local BBQ restaurant for dinner.  The sun shined all day!  Who could ask for anything more!

Spent another 5 hours at my volunteering "job" today!  I always come away with a smile on my face after spending that time with my fellow volunteers.  We are doing so much good!

I only wish we could find a way to entice others to volunteer--even if only for a couple hours.  The ReStore is doing such a service to the community, as well as providing building dollars for Habitat for Humanity.   Will have to do more thinking on the subject.

I love my volunteer time at our Habitat ReStore. I volunteer 5 hours a week and always feel so good when I leave. Our store is located in Klamath Falls, Oregon.

A Habitat ReStore is a resale facility that deals in new and used building materials and home improvement items. Merchandise may be overstock or discontinued items donated by manufacturer and stores or surplus donated by contractors and the general public. Prices are substantially discounted and the stock moves quickly and changes constantly. The income generated by the Habitat ReStore helps to expand the affiliate's construction program of affordable houses for selected low income families.

Our ReStore is facing a very large problem at the present time. We do not have enough volunteers to keep our store open more than 3 days per week, from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m.

With the economy being in such a sorry state in our area--our unemployment rate is approximately 20%--our ReStore is providing a place where the community can purchase building and home improvement supplies at a substantial savings. It is such a joy to see people who otherwise would not be able to do repairs to their homes, leaving our "store" with smiles on their faces. Not only are we helping them, but adding to the coffers of Habitat for Humanity in order to complete homes in our community.
