La vida corre en el curso

Today we trailered the horses to Sevilleta Reserve..

and did a 3hr RT ride. It was a gloriously sunny day, but a bit chilly until we got into the bosque along the river banks. We ended up at a bend in the Rio Grande where there were Canadian Geese, and a mule deer doe came down to drink across the river. We heard a hawk, and then saw it flying. There were footprints in the path and A. said "Oh, there's a bare [foot]print", and D thought she meant a bear paw print. A great freight train went through on the way back, but the horses were good with that. We had to go through a fence designed to keep ATV's out and the gate was narrow, so the horses refused. But we found another a little wider. I had to lift my stirrup and raise my leg to avoid hitting the posts, but D and A dismounted and walked through. Cisco is calm and biddable, but the other horses were a little nervous. The cottonwoods were festooned with mistletoe, which is a parasite which will eventually kill the trees. Unfortunately the salt cedars seems inhospitable to the pest and were rampant. They take up so much water, which, in the desert, could be better used. D and her husband B, and A. gave me nice sympathy cards for Grace. I miss her in the corral.

There's lots of horses in the SW; NM, AZ and TX. There's a horse motel on I25 where you can park a trailer and put your horses in a corral. Lots of rides in the nearby desert or trailer elsewhere. Today we went to the Fife Ranch in SE NM where there used to be a mining town called Carthage. It's abandoned and ruined. Call 505 480 2806 and talk to Diane. The weather was glorious today

It's the same thing. I guess the host tree it's on loses its sap, and dehydrates

The only mistletoe I know of, is the one you kiss under at Christmas, did not know there was a parasite-mistletoe.
