About Me

I certainly have experienced a colorful life, which I call Chapters in an evolving of the NOW "Me," the USED to be "Me," and the WHAT "Me" I will NEXT be. In a blink of the eye, I realized, that I have been in this phase of early retirement for 5 years...which is shocking to admit to myself A) It has been that long B) My restlessness of this stage of my life. C) The NEED to reinvent myself again. D) How the heck to do something about the PRESENT "Me?" Retirement in the past was for those around mid sixties, but CHANGES have occurred in our society to see so many of us retiring in our fifties. This point is SHOCKING to me. along with a statement, which brings a smile to most of us... " I have turned into my MOTHER, with perhaps a bit more sassiness and mouthiness than she had." So here I stand at this CRSSROAD, deciding which direction I SHALL turn NEXT.... North? South? East? or West? Now, won't this be an adventure to just SEE what path is taken...

Interests:
Cajun Cooking and other ethic styles of cooking, creating things, artsy stuff, researching stuff, helping others. Sorry, I have never been into sports. Probably falls back to my school days, when I was so uncoordinated, I was always the last person chosen in PE for any team... UGH

Chapter 9        Momma Goes to Work

Momma had no choice, with her herd of children to take care of... but to find a job.  There was something called a Mall, across the Big Lake, that was opening up, and had jobs available.  Momma got a job at one of those Big Department Stores working, as a clerk in the offices.  We did not have a car, so, Momma had to take the Greyhound Bus everyday, to and from work, which was at least an hour each way.

About 5:30 pm, my Brothers and I would wait at the end of our driveway for Momma.  We must have been like little vultures, waiting to grab onto Momma, as soon as she came home...  Momma had to walk, from the Highway to our house, which often was muddy, wet, and slippery from the rain.... (no paved roads in the country, back then...) She would put on her old shoes, after she got off the bus, to just walk home, for she did not want to ruin her only pair of work shoes in that muddy mess.

When we saw Momma coming, we would race to greet her, and be oh, so happy... Momma was home.   I am sure she was tired, but she still had to come home, and do all the Momma duties... cook, wash clothes, take care of her babies, clean.  When I had babies, I understood, why Momma would "shussh" me away, when she was reading the newspaper.   She just needed a little bit of time to herself, which was hard to find, with 5 kids around.

Hmm? We, Working Moms, do understand how hard it must have been, and still is today...to raise babies and have to work too.  In the 50's, Working Moms was not all that common...and not having a Daddy around, even rarer.

I have been watching the news and seeing all the flooding over in Ga., I have family & friends over there in Acworth, Kennesaw, Cartersville and then in the No. Ga. Mts, hope you and yours are safe and sound.
We have had plenty of this rain here in Al., also, but gosh looks worse over there, Six Flaggs is in deep water, wow.
I hope to see some clear skies & sunshine soon, but more rain is in our future here thru this coming weekend.

Thank you Myra for your thoughts of well being. I had quite a scare yesterday, when the rain had submerdged my backyard and came within feet of engulfing my home.. I was so scared and had to fight back tears of fear...

Luckily and with my open prayers to God for protection, when the rain slowed.... the water had a chance to drain. Within an hour of the advancing water stopping, it was gone from my yard.

That is how hard the rain had been falling for hours, that it pooled and could not drain. Whew! Thank you Lord for the blessing.
