My Journals (6)

June 20th and 21st was the Relay for Life cancer walk at D-Y High School.  This is the 13th year that it's been held at our local high school.  It is my second year to be involved.  I belong to a group called CERT--Community Emergency Response Team.  We are educated in disaster relief.  We also help out at local events in our community.  Our CERT team had a tent this year and we all walked in support of cancer research.  It is such a worthy cause.  My sister died in 1992 of breast cancer.  She was only 46.  I made a quilt in her memory (mostly pink fabrics) to be raffled off and donated the money to cancer research.  I made $380.00.

It was a rewarding experience to be part of this team for the second year.  Our team raised over $1700.00.  On Fri night they do luminarias.  They have white waxy bags that people decorate in memory of their loved ones.  They are filled with sand and a tiny candle.  At 9:00 they are all lit, the lights are lowered, soft music is played, and everyone walks around the track to look at the candles.  It is a very moving and emotional experience.

My knees are still sore from all the walking and standing that we did.  I'll still do it again next year.  We have to try and get a cure for cancer!

An old bank in our area has been turned into a gorgeous cultural center.  A plaque was unveiled yesterday with the founding members names listed.  Our name and JoAnna's is listed there for posterity.  It was a great honor.  We've watched it go from a bank that was in disrepair, full of mold, and hazardous materials, to a gorgeous cultural center today.  I don't think anyone envisioned how beautiful it would become.  We had a wonderful time watching the transformation.

I went to a quilt show in a church in Weymouth.  They had the quilts laying over the back and seat part of the pews.  They were very pretty quilts.   I'm so used to a quilt show where all the quilts are hung up.  I'm not sure if I like a quilt show done this or with the quilts being hung up.  They were very pretty and inspiring.

It's pouring here on Cape Cod today.  I'm feeling lethargic and probably the rain is adding to that.  I know we need the rain, but after so many beautiful spring days, it's such a let down to have all this rain.  Tomorrow is supposed to be a better day.  One can only hope.

I took the pink quilt to the quilter yesterday.  She promised me that she'd have it ready within 2 weeks.  I want to get the binding on and get it ready to raffle to make money for the Cancer Walk!

I'm off to have my breakfast and then to sew some more to pass this miserable, gray day!  Everyone have a sunny day wherever you are.

For 2 years I sent Christmas cards to our friend, Madeleine, and they came back to me. I assumed she had passed away.  I tried and tried to reach her daughter, Michele, to no avail.  She'd changed her email address and I didn't have her regular address.  Yesterday out of the blue, I got an email from Michele (a forward).  Immediately, I emailed her and asked about her mother.  I got an email this morning.  Her mother didn't pass away, but has  Alzheimer's and is in a rest home.  That is very sad.  I glad to know though.

  Hello,

I'm a passionate quilter, who loves to try new things.  I also enjoy seeing other quilter's work.  Please join me and lets talk about our passion.  Please send pictures of your work too. Even if you just enjoy looking at quilts, I'd love for you to join me.
