About Me

I live in Washington, DC, with my wife and mini-Dachund, Gage. I have two adult daughters, one lives in Germany, where she teaches English and Spanish to military dependents on the secondary level, and my other daughter works at a law firm here in Washington. My wife works at a lobbying firm on K St., in Washington. My wife and I are very fond of traveling, and make a point of visiting Southern Caifornia, where I was born and raised, every year, during the late summer. We also enjoy taking a cruise every two years. Our next destination is a Med cruise next year.

Interests:
My main interest is music. Jazz that is, hence the moniker, Jazzman. I was a musician of sorts, many years ago, but circumstances prevented me from following my muse. I intend, however, when I am fully retired, to practice diligently on my trumpet and fluglehorn to the point that I can play to my capability. My second interest is sports. I am a big Washington Redskins football fan. I am looking forward to the coming season with our new coach and hopefully a return to our winning tradition. I am also a soccer fanatic. I am a big fan of the US domestic soccer league, the MLS, especially the Washington, DC team, DC United. I love the natilonal US team and definetely look forward to them achieving stature as a international soccer power in the future. I did volunteer work for the AARP Washington, DC State Office for two and one-half years, ending in 2005. I enjoyed my volunteer work very much.

 “My Dream Job Journal”
August 15. 2008

My wife and I returned to Washington, August 14th, from Los Angeles. We spent a delightful week on vacation in Southern California.

As I said in a previous journal, we make a point to visit my home city, in late summer, each year. We were able to relax and take long walks on the beach, visit Universal Studios, go on the Sony Pictures Tour, taste wonderful New Orleans cuisine at a local restaurant, and in general unwind. It also gave me the opportunity to see family and old friends and most importantly, spend some valuable time with my wife. I highly recommend taking time off, a vacation, if possible. The stresses, both mental and physical of working and/or looking for employment can be exhausting, especially for seniors.

As I discussed in the last journal, I have accepted a consulting position, on a project, with a national company dealing with aging issues. Sabrina, the Deputy Director, with the company indicated to me that a well known government agency, that deals with quality of life issues for older Americans, was partnering with her company on the project, and that the liaison with the agency would be meeting with us as soon as possible.

After two attempts, we finally had a successful conference call on August 6th to discuss the basic outline of the project and to define my responsibilities.

After an hour of talk, we agreed to meet, in person, in two weeks to detail the specifics of the project. Hopefully, I will know after the meeting precisely what I have to do. I am aware that the time is getting shorter and that the project will have to be developed based on the time limitations.

Stay tuned!

Hey, Jazzman,
Have you tried joning a community band? Fluegehorn players are always in demand! the band I play in has a 96 year old French horn player, so , you are definitely not too old !

Congratulations on your contest !
Now, have you tried the local radio stations? Or , go for broke and talk to NPR?
You should join the Radio group and talk to Steve there, too.
Good Luck!!
