Old style group messages (I think)

OK as of 3/29 I think this will work. either add your posts to the journal or create your own questions - I started the journal for convenience (mine and others) one stop shopping. For keeping tabs on campers and what there up to.

Here’s the theory behind the journal - back in the old
                    http:// community.aarp.org

camping forum - if we had a thought on a nice place to camp with or without an RV. Or this really great idea for an easy to setup, easy to use screen room - we could ask some else on the board what they thought about it. Wanted to know if we thought they should waterproof the seams on their pre-waterproofed tent, wanted to know opinions on various hiking boots, hand and foot warmers, radiant cast iron vs. soap stone woodstoves. Wanted to find the ideal place to camp, fish, hike, or maybe even find the ideal bucket of ribs - if traveling through someone else’s old stomping grounds - put a post up.

I think this is a planned catch all for the little - how you doings, how’s the weather, where you been, where you going, how bout that price of gas/diesel/ solar panel/battery

And we cant forget what are you making the next time you’re on the road and the fish aren’t biting. Can it be made quick and cheap in a minute or 5 and can you feed one or twenty by adding noodles my favorite weapon - if a can of mushroom soup is added to it. Have a better than average recipe for cowboy coffee for those not blessed with AC to bring their drip maker along, or that are really boondocking off in the willies.

Anything else go for it - your keyboard is the only thing preventing your creating a topic in/on/under/and above the board.

Fran,
Message received and pointers have been given - if necessary you can send her my email via the email - NOT FOR PUBLIC POSTING. No, I wasn't shouting the darn caps lock is smaller than my little finger and I'm getting lazy.

2Sharp,
Don't hold me to this but, I believe the old site was managed by Prospero - for a straight out of the box forum. When AARP switched to this new forum I believe they opened a new box - or else decided to try an in-house message forum. At least that's the idea I'm getting from some of the crash messages I've been getting.
I was kinda hoping this place would be open to either type of camping - with or without self-containment. I merely got tired of packing up my gear and soggy sleeping bags, tent, etc. to return to the civilized (not really) world, after spending a week or three camping by some secluded lake that required 4 low to get into and out of again.
Then when I found my chunk of Paradise - I had to sell the camper to buy the boat, and lo and behold I'm back to that 3-room tent, just now doing my tenting on islands in and around Maine - some for free and others for minimal cost. I have to admit my idea of seclusion before and now are pretty much the same - the less people the better, I just prefer my DW and dogs to people up the (fill-in-the-blank).
If it does manage to work as I hope cool - the original version back on Prospero, was tenters and RV'ers - with the common interest of getting out in nature. Some just required a little more conveniences than possible with a tent- do to mobility issues (we are getting older) aches and pains (suggest air mattresses and when those fail just haul the bed with you).
Gotta go!

Hello: Frozenoem

I am also finding this new format difficult to use and navigate through. I am not a new camper, as the term applies and is used here, either. New camper meaning new user. Been on this site for several years. Not meaning a new camper whom likes outdoor woods camping. But I do really enjoy the outdoor type camping more so then being a camper on this site...LOL!

At least, in my opinion, this new format is far more difficult to use then it should be. Not as user friendly as it was in the prior format or as user friendly as it could be. Lots of good features but not anywhere as user friendly, IMO.

And like yourself, have been using computers for many many years. I am also a admin on a very large web site that is a bulletin posting message board. Which is far easier to use and far more user friendly. Especially for those whom are not as computer savvy as we are or many others might be.

If there is a forum topic about camping, the outdoors type of camping that is, where is it????

I suspect this new format allowing users to create their own groups, lessens the burdons on the ARRP staff members whom have to monitor and manage the content of each post and or topic....????

Oh Well! Those whom learn will benefit and those whom cannot or do not will fall by the wayside or just stumble around. Another reason why posts are found in wrong forum topics, etc.

HUM! No spell check? No means to edit once the submit button is clicked? Just a flag button? Site sure lacks much to be desired IMO.

Frozen,
To use this as a group should we direct the new campers to this community site or is it working ok as it is?

Cool new bug - Earl is probably over in Journey's or else is taking one.
My bug is everytime I come to this page - my original message opens up.
And that's without even going to the edit menu or clicking on the original message.

Fran, if it makes you feel any better I've had three love letters as has everyother male or female on the board (all from the same people) - there's a word for that I think. I've also had an honest to gosh 401 Nigerian scam hit the mailbox - asking for help in getting her late husbands money out of some country for a small fee.
Anyone can get in to either the new or the old AARP site - and log in then send messages, much as in the old group where if they wanted to they could start a
new topic and offer their services in the forums.
One of the many reasons that people used to see, this message has been pulled because it violates the rules of use.
I think things are finally improving on this site - for once I forgot to open Firefox - and thus far I've had no trouble, responding to people in Internet Explorer, with no crashes or dumps .
About the jouranl it is eventually uspposed to be opened in the camping site directly just hasn't happened yet. gotta bug!
