Just me, venting, I spend far too much time reading labels and the like.....
You know, the other day I was cooking and went to open a jar of sauce.....just out of habit, i read the label...couldnt believe it....."Heat until Hot" ....were the directions. Now, just how stupid does some retail giant think the general public is ?? I wonder what amount of ridiculous settlement I could have received if I had taken the jar, put it on the stove as is and just waited for the damn thing to blow up??? I mean, really, what about the directions on pill bottles....."Take By Mouth".. I shudder to think about the reason behind this one. Seriously, imagine the poor person who went to the doctor for a headache, got the pills, came back four days later, still had the headache but now, added a sore butt???
One of my favorites is the warning on the sunscreen things for car windows. You know the ones, they go in the front window, are usually inch thick aluminum and on most there is a warning to "remove before driving". Now how far would one get with that one?? Of course, I have one that has no warning, wonder how unreasonable a settlement I could get for that one?? I mean really, do "they" think we are this unaware ?? I hate to use the word stupid but I get almost embarrassed when the people I used to work with, most were from the former Yugoslavia and spoke very little english, they would read stuff like this on labels and ask me "why"?? "Dont people know how to use this"? Like the paint we used for the floor, it warned "for external use only, do not drink".....??????
While I do acknowledge there are people who misuse things like spray cans, inhalers and the like. Fact is, if one wants to sniff paint fumes, they are gonna do so with or without the warning. If one wants to do wierd things with an asprin, they will probably do the weird thing anyhow....I do not need to be told where to insert a pill, or that paint is for external use only, or warned not to drink fingernail polish remover !!
