Africa Now

I was blessed to go to Nigeria this year 2008, My friends, co workers and family tried to talk me out of it, but I had no fear and trusted the man I had been courting for two yrs now... Well, we married but that is not what it is about.

What I saw there was a land and society as if time had stood still. Jobs are few, if you worked it was for a foreign company or you handmade items for everyday uses, such as dye cloth, wood carvings, etc. I had the opportunity to visit two villages while there. What I witnessed was no electricity, no plumbing, water from a local creek (muddy waters), mud huts and happy people.

Nigeria’s are warm and friendly people. This mess on the computer with scam and crooked dealings is a small percentage of the real Africa, sad, we cling to that image. I will include two video, one is of how the world started thinking of africa as a whole, a place to be forgotten, of a people not worthy to be labeled of that of a royal dog. Even Richard Burton was quoted in this video, and it was not nice what he said either.

The outsiders I will call them, come and dig up the diamonds, pump up and take away the crude oil the is so plentiful there in Africa. Sucking up all Africa’s riches with out puting a well, a school, a outhouse, gas line to home for cooking, this is what the battle is in the Delta State of East Africa. And I questioned of South Africa while I was there. It has fallen into a state of lack now. Why? Because all the resources that was used there has been taken away, their were left to find a way where no way had been give piror and since. So the old ways became the new ways in South Africa again.

The second video I will show is of the large cities there in Africa, the fine building, the plush illusions, I say it that way because if you go outside the metro areas you will find huts of mud, unemployment, children wanting to learn, families working on farms, peddlers of wares. I dont know if I am painting a clear picture of what I witnessed there. But my point is inspite all this, they remain hopeful, warm and friendly to traveler’s who come to visit their country. Amazing how God gives us the peace no man can take away and a joy that passes all understanding.

So, I have opened my heart to the children  in Ondo state, the two villages to help them get school supplies and fees for a child can even attend classes. I can’t do it alone.  I have 115 children on my list. Please feel free to contact me in email of your interest in sponoring a child. Thank You.

Seeking those who are willing to sponsor a child during their schooling age. The non profit is  called African American Initiatives for Africa’s forgotten Ones..  I am going back to live I leave you here with the sweet sounds of Africa http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=96SxKk0zeek

MadreinSD says:
Thank you for sharing your journey and I would be happy to help in some small way. Please send me more information on how much it would cost to sponsor a child and I will gladly help. We are so fortunate here in America and very often we forget how crazy the world is outside our safe comfort zones. Both my parents were immigrants and very poor ones at that, had it not been for them coming to the states my life would be very, very different.

I look forward to hearing from you and thank you again for sharing your thoughts and hopes. Carina
