One thing is certain.  The older you get, time goes by faster. There are so many things that I want to do but it seems like I just don't have the time. In winter, its even worse.  Daylight is short, the weather is terrible and just trying to get started on anything is getting harder.  But I have accomplished a few things that I wanted to do.

I got rid of my old computer (almost two years old) and bought a new Dell XPS 8000.  I had Dell build it to my specifications and am working to get it set up as the entertainment center in my apartment.  I have a HDTV, 37 inch and I have hooked my computer to it.  On the internet, I can get satelite TV, stations from around the world, most US major broadcasters, movies, and anything else that I want to watch.  Eventually, when it is complete, I will dump  Comcast completely. They are getting so expensive and the rates are even going higher.  I signed a petition to the FCC to forbid the merger of Comcast and NBC Universal. I  also am going to buy the MagicJack that they advertise on tv..  But for the moment I will wait, because they are coming out with a new one that allows you to use you cell phone over the internet as well as the normal telephone.  Then I can dump Century-Link as my phone provider.  Since your cell phone calls go over the internet, the cellular company you use won't be able to  charge you for  any minutes when you use your cell phone when at home.  My computer is also my tv recorder, and I am able to play blu-ray discs as well as DVD and cd's.  I don't have to have all kind of  gadgets laying around to do all this.  Just my puter and me.

I do some beta testing for Microsoft on some new software that are in the programming stage.  I did testing on Windows 7 for a year before the final release.  Its a great program and really had very few problems in the testing stage.  Today I am testing Microsoft Office 2010 and Excel.  Thats all I can say about that, because I had to sign a privacy statement that stated that I cannot share any information on the products until the release.  But I will say, that so far Microsoft Word is great.  Adds a lot  of new features and after reading the instructions while getting used to it I find it much better than the previous ones.  I used to use open office and still  have it on my computer but don't use it anymore.

I am working on a new site at WebPress.  I should have it up and running in the next 30 days.  When its operational and web ready, will post on this journal that web address.  Myself and a couple of friends will write the articles for it.  Its more or less about small town living and the crazies that we have around us.  Kinda like, One Flew over the Cuckoo Nest.

Here at the Manor, things are just as crazy as ever.  Big Bertha and her daughter Big Bertha Jr. are on the rampage again.  These two women are huge.  I am not kidding you.  Momma weighs about 400 lbs and daughter weighs in at about 350 lbs. Their favorite past-time is eating.  They will sit in the community room during the day and shovel the food down, from salad, soup, sandwiches and lots of pastry.  Their only activity is to walk from their respective apts. to the community room. That is all the excersize they get.  Probably eat about 6 or 7,000 calories a day and maybe burn about 1,000.  They certainly are not getting any smaller.  The other day, Big Bertha was bragging that she was down to 350 pounds.  One in the group asked her, which leg? You will here more about them in later posts.

Today, tho, I have the  tv on and watching MSNBC and the Massachusets (sic) senatorial race.  The polls should be closed by 5:00 pm our time so I should know the winner before bed time.  Its time to take my dog, Valentine out for a walk. We do that about three times a day and sometimes more.   I  hope all of you had a good Christmas with family and friends and that your new year be prosperous.

Dennis, you just gave an excellent description of a problem many people have -- getting along with each other!
That would be a great start to developing content on your new web page. Along with dealing with your membership, you also have tons of stories and examples to impart based on your large family and your years of Navy service and work. Pick some examples of the right and wrong way to handle a situation based on your own experience. You might call your website "Getting Along" or "Quit Complaining" or "Dennis' Tips for Dealing with Conflict"

Good morning Joan,
Thanks for responding to my online journal. Just getting started was a battle within myself. Did I want to or did I just want to keep on the work I was doing on the site I'm developing? Of course my decision ended up being "voila" my journal. Conflict resolution had been part of the work I was doing inside my job. It was only one small aspect overall but I found ways of dealing with them. My work in government gave me a lot of insight into human behavior. I worked with my agency by handling greivances pertinent to my office, by citizens and legislators. Not an easy task, to say the least. But all worked out, a state trucking association honored me for my work as well as legislators from both parties. I really don't like to "toot my horn" but I am the first one to set up a pc based system for my office. Of course it had spread to the entire state government. My office was the first in the state to started to take credit cards for payments on licensing. Now most state agencies do. I was the first in the nation to set up a tri-state licensing agreement between states. That concept has been repeated by most areas of the nation. To cut things short, I have had a very good working life. I learned a lot from those experiences and today, I do a little no-fee consulting. I had always wanted to take my experiences and try to help other people solve problems that they encounter. As I live out my remaining years, (all down hill, from now on), I hope that if I can help just one person, it will be well woth it. My family has a web site that lists our family history. It is very interesting and it will be a reminder to those that are young now or those to be born later, the heritage that is theirs. It took countless hours to gather the information and countless more to put them in a family like tree, and then comment on each ancestor. What they did, where they came from, etc. Thanks for your input. I will save your email for reference
