About Me

Divided We Fail is a national bipartisan initiative led by AARP, the Business Roundtable, the Service Employees International Union and the National Federation of Independent Businesses aimed at raising the voices of millions of Americans who want substantial change on the issues of health care and lifetime financial security. Divided We Fail supporters represent a broad and diverse cross-section of Florida and America. Republicans, Democrats, Consumer Groups, Communities, Labor and Business; together they bring millions of voices to our movement. Together, we are demanding action.

The Champmobile is an interactive educational vehicle with wireless internet, satellite feeds, two flat-screen televisions, speakers and a stage that will be touring the state from now until the November elections. The name honors the DWF mascot; Champ, part donkey, part elephant that represents the bipartisanship needed to make changes on healthcare and financial security.

DWF Florida’s University Impact Team Spends sets out on the state’s college campuses telling students and their parents about Divided We Fail

TAMPA – When AARP kicked off its Divided We Fail campaign in the early primary states of Iowa, New Hampshire, Nevada, South Carolina, Florida and Michigan, DWF Florida Campaign Manager Jeff Johnson assembled some of the staffers and asked them to devote their efforts to college campuses.

“Many students hear AARP and Divided We Fail and are immediately turned off,” Johnson said.  “We wanted a group of people who were prepared to meet those challenges and create a successful message that would resonate with students that Divided We Fail is for everybody.”

Over the last year the University Impact Team has made stops at the campuses of Bethune Cookman-College (BCC) in Daytona, Florida International University (FIU) in Miami, Florida State University (FSU) in Tallahassee, and the newest stop the University of South Florida (USF) in Tampa.

“We’ve been able to show parents that we care about the welfare of healthcare and financial security of not only our members but all Americans,” said ASD Bill Clark who led the charge at BCC where they collected 170 pledges.  “We got great help from the VolusiaCounty volunteers.”

“We were able to get some consistent student volunteers who have helped us whenever we had events on campus,” Program Coordinator Laura Cantwell said about their efforts at FSU.  “They also were able to help us during the Leon County Community Blitz.”

While at USF for the first time, Team members Jason Merritt, Claire Selius, Jackie Haberman and R.J. Heubert worked a table for three days during Welcome Back Week.  When the dust had settled, the four were able to collect 156 pledges.

“When working on campuses you have to try different strategies,” said Merritt the DWF Deputy Campaign Manager.  “We had success trying a few different things each day.”

UIT holds a debate watch party at FSU

The University Impact Team plans to continue going to campuses and later bring the Champmobile to conduct debate watch parties and attract more students to help with Divided We Fail.
