I didn't say I liked Rand and Mencken, I said I was influenced by them. Their writing, that is. I don't know enough about Ayn Rand to say either way, but I'm sure I would not like Mencken just based on his empathy with Hitler and the Nazis.

The comment about not caring if people like my photos was disingenuous. OK, I was lying. I'm not like Gauguin in that sense. It is nice to hear good comments. There are few photos I have on my computer that I like well enough to put on my page. Most of my better ones are framed enlargements. When my new camera arrives, a PentaxK20D, I will attempt to do more.

You have some very good photos.

Hello Kemay,
That is very kind of you to comment on my photos. It means a lot to hear that.
Feel free to write to me at Curious@CuriousCreations.com, if you don't mind sending email instead of using this site to communicate.
My website is CuriousCreations.com if you want to see more, if you haven't already.
Are you an artist or photographer too? Whoops, guess I should look at your profile before I ask. : )
Thank you again,
Norma
ps. not sure when I'll be going but have tentative plans to go to Thailand within the next 6 months

Hi Norma,
That was helpful. Are you really planning to go to Bangkok? Have you been there before? That would be a very interesting trip. The only other country I have ever visited was Canada. Not very far from home for me.
I've been very busy with meetings of one sort or another. May will be another busy month. Hope I can get some work done around the house before summer is really here.
Wishing you peace,
Ellie

Thanks for your reply. I know only the sketchiest bit about Buddhism. I understood that there is no belief in a god or gods, but thought it had a philosophy the required a particular practice. I certainly did not mean to offend you if I did. I should know better than to make assumptions about anything I know so little about.

Have a great day.

You did not offend me. I try to answer back in an informative way according to what is asked or questioned.
You are right. The fundamental philosophy of Buddhism does not include any supreme being. One is left to form his own opinions about where we came from. In later forms of Buddhism, Zen, there are 'saints' that they also show respect to other than The Buddha. I do not follow those schools of thought.
I am involved with the Thai community although I myself am not Thai or Asian. Thailand is one of the few countries left that still practices the original form of Buddhism.
LOL, if I was as good as one thinks a Buddhist should be I'd be a Buddha and in Nirvana. We who are living a life still here on Earth are not ready to be there yet.
In Buddhism it's up to the individual to set his own standards, as it were, as to how far he wants to go. He knows what he should do but if he doesn't that's his fault. There's no forgiveness as in Christianity, we have to earn what we get. If I 'choose' to be angry, haha or do other things that we know we shouldn't, it will just take longer.'
Of course there's more to it and that's rather a simple way to explain, the best I could but maybe that helps. There are good websites that explain in an easy to understand way the various kinds of Buddhism, if you'd like to know more, better than I can tell it.
Thank you,
Norma

Wow! You are the angriest Buddhist I have ever encountered. does it interfere with meditation? Just curious.

Peace,
Ellie

No, I do not often meditate. Most Buddhists who I know don't either, not as in sitting and clearing their mind, if that's what you are talking about. Do you know anything about Buddhism? I think if one did know a lot about it they would understand your statement of being angry and being a Buddhist have nothing to do with one another. Not in the way I think you mean it to sound. If I'm wrong please let me know
