I feel compelled to share this with you to demonstrate how little acts of kindess by all of us can make the world we live in a much better place.
I was late leaving to go out of town the other day, but I stopped by the Post Office to mail a few things. While there I realized I needed some additional stamps. I looked for the vending machine I was so familiar with only to find it had been replaced with something that resembled an ATM with a scale. It only offered two options for payment,
debit or credit card. I made my purchase of stamps then proceeded to a postage scale nearby to verify correct postage. I applied the stamps and proceeded to place my mail in the slot when I heard an elderly woman inquire with several other people in the Post Office where she could by stamps to which nobody seemed to know or care about helping the woman.
I took a moment to explain the ATM device to her at which time she explained she had just checked her very ill sister into the hospital and all she had was change on her, no debit or credit card to make a stamp purchase. I informed her I had just purchased some stamps and asked her how many she needed. She explained she only needed one and offered me a whole handful of change as payment. I handed her the stamp she needed with a smile and explained I had no problem giving her a stamp and wished her a good evening and my prayers for her sisters' quick recovery. She smiled and was enormously grateful of this complete stranger's act of kindness. It's the little things that can change our world for the better. Lot's of little things!
