I started out with periperal neurolgic problems (discs that herniated onto my spinal cord , thus disallowing surgery as I could be paralized, so my doctor said NO.
Then a few years later, I got a virus (very rare) called Transverse Myelitis. My neurologist had me call three other in are local area (four square miles) to report it to the Health Dept. They did no follow up! He was very surprised, as he felt it must have been ecological in nature - as we lived so close...and it ranged from a three year old to three others in mid-life. We all reacted to it - and, therefore, were left with differing treatments. The three year old is paralyzed from the neck down and remains in a wheelchair! One womenuses a cane to get around and has to be hospitalized monthly for IV therapy. The other was in a rehab, learned most everything again, and from what I understand, is doing better. I was left with a chronic pain cycle, permanent damage to my myelin sheath(around my spinal cord so that things that would normally get to my brain correctly is interrupted, and various other disabling (limiting) modalities. At least I am able to get around, but with the medication I am on (about 20 meds daily) I drive very short distances withtimimg so I am not "affected" by the medication. The diagnosis by one doctor was benign MS, and another "a puzzle wrapped up in an enigma" - or is it quoted the other way?

Then I had to have an accident two years ago, and broke (splintered) my sacrum (back - largest bone, with all the nerves and blood vessels passing through points, thus again, disallowing surgery). My husband, bless him, was my strength and nursemaid.

But how is your daughter? I have a grown, married son, who was diagnosed with Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis when nine. The doctors ouldn't believe me when I argued that he had Lymes...as he had the rash and the fever, but it was all so new then...that they didn't want to treat with antibiotics (which made all his joints like new!) Sorry I took so long in replying. My only excuse was my MAC was not working properly, and it took a long time to fix. Now I am trying to learn how to navigate the site. I would like to have a discussion where all take part. It sounds like you are replying to my original message. To clarify, I meant that I did not want anyone who had any type of problems with that topic (from someone who might be reading it and be put in a difficult situation of explaining their personal decision - or any other interfering or uncomfortable position - that we could avoid this from occurring. Have you been able to read the replies of other members?

I have to learn how to navigate this site. I am trying to get a group forum going. Perhaps even have a moderator lead us on another topic? Or just help us "novices" get around the site! Your photos are adorable, and you Forgot to add cats to your interests (smile). (That would be helpful to us who would put phtos for you to view.) I have a friend who has four cats. She adopts any lost animal...

I see you have been to many interesting places. I have been only to the states.
Originally, I was from New jersey, moved around because of my hsband's work until he finally settled down - oddly enogh - and mostly because of aging parents - back in New Jersey. But living where we were (Hunterdon Cty) got too costly, and we moved to Delaware. This state is getting more expesive to live in also. And we thought we had saved enogh to retire comfortably in the home we had! But life throws you many curves, so we ended up here.

I see you play games. One of my disabilities allows me to spend only so much time at an activity, so my scores are never the highest, but I do enjoy them. I never did learn Mahjongg: Mom Jongg? Where do you find these?

Hi, Barbara, it is nice to hear from you. Yes, I have lived in many places, not so much by choice but world events. Now we live in the Catskills with our disabled daughter and the animals. I have many interests, playing ghames is just a little diversion I use inbetween activities. You mention a handicap, you have; you mind telling me about it. I am always interseted in finding out how I might help others with handicapping conditions. . I hacve to find somether pictures, not necessarily of animals. But I just found this AARP site and I am also still learning to maneuver it. . Greetings, Marlies
