About Me

I was born at Lowry Air Force Base, Denver, Colorado, right after WWII - dad was career Air Force. Moved to USAF bases in Louisiana, Texas, Iowa, Illinois, & Great Britain. Dad retired in Illinois. Have 2 children (both boys) & 3 grandchildren. Oldest grandaughter just graduated from the Univeristy of Illinois. I graduated from college in Illinois & taught school for 10 years. Then I moved to Missouri & went to work for a defense contractor. After 30 years there I was laid off in May of '08 (fortunately could retire). My younger son & I are General Contractors in the Residential Home Improvement/Remodeling business. So, since we are busy, I'm not really retired. We also "flip" houses & we have a couple of rentals. Lots of Repos in the St. Louis area - so sad - too many layoffs. Lots of big industry here - or should I say "used" to be a lot

Interests:
I like to read mysteries & science fiction & I love to cook. I also garage & estate sale. Have decorated 3 houses in the "eclectic" style. I love to garden & I do all the landscaping for our Home Improvement Company. My brother who lives in Santa Fe, NM is a landscape artist & has given me some VERY interesting ideas. He's into native/natural plants & water features - does all his own sculptures. Their Santa Fe Botanical Garden just did a big "feature" on some of his work. Also, I volunteer at the local Humane Society w/my vet who does a free clinic day each week

My Journals (1)

My son surprised me this weekend when I visited.  I drove up and there they were:  my son Scott, my grandson Nathan, his girlfriend LeAnn & 2 new furkids Pepper & Luke which they had just adopted from their local Humane Society .  Posted their pictures:  Pepper & Luke.  Pepper is great & according to my 11 year old grandson Nathan, Luke is a "retard"!

Been working with Nathan on how to train dogs.  Nathan is an eleven-year-old natural.  His only comment was, "Can we tether Luke in the back of the truck while we are training Pepper!"  That's the only command Luke knows:  "TRUCK"!  He loves to go/go/go.

Nathan's dad (my older son Scott) thinks I spoil my dogs.  Difference is between "country dogs" & "city dogs" I told him.  Anyway, I tried to give Pepper a cookie & she just sat at attention at my feet.  I was stumped.  Then, "lightbulb" & I said, "Give me 5" & VOILA!  So, Nathan & I proceeded to teach her to singalong to "How Much Is That Doggie In the Window?" & she does a grandstand "ARF, ARF" & twirls.  (Yup, Luke was still tethered in the truck.)

As for Luke - we don't quite know where to start with him.  He has absolutely no attention span.  He was named after "Cool Hand Luke" and has turned out to be anything BUT!

However, since I insisted that the furkids come into the house with us to watch TV that night & Pepper had an accident, I got "KP carpet cleaning duty".  No - Luke was not still tethered in the truck - he was tied to the couch.  He's a retard, remember!

Did you have a great time with your old friends? Do I even need to ask?

Cool! I'm glad you had a good time. Did they all go back to work or are some of them retired now?
