Maybe he is alergic to something in the food, like grains? Dogs are not meant to eat fillers such as grains. Most dog foods contain grains. Thats just a thought to consider

I have a Maltese, He does not have tear stains, just lucky? I make his food after much research. I make a very healthy large meatloaf that lasts about 5-6 weeks. I cut it up into smaller portions and freeze in baggies. He will be 5yrs. in May I have been doing this since he was under a year, because he began getting tear staining. I read some where it was caused by comercial dog food. Many of them have food coloring. since then NO MORE STAINING
