Hi I live on the Caribbean island of Dominica. I just finished watching Caring for your parents on PBS and loggedon here after the show. I am the only female in a family of 4 children. My mother is 88. Last year she was sick and had to be hospitalized. She then developed Shingles, which was very painful . It was a very stressful time, ( I wish I had discovered this resource then) but thankfully she has recovered and although she has diabetes Type 2 and High blood pressure, she is blessed to be mentally alert. I can only imagine what it must be like to have a parent with Alzheimers. The photo of the beach attracted me as Dominica has several beachs and 365 rivers.. yes one for every day of the year. Our beaches here are mainly black sand which I know is quite unusual as we are of volcanic origin. Caring for a parent can be challenging and also create renewed family relationships.
Hey Trish,
I can't even begin to claim "I know how you feel", but I do sympathize with you.
I have been reading some info about toxic metals and alzhiemers, and the outlook seems promising. Have you had your mother checked for metal toxicity?
I highly recommend you do so. I lived in Key West for over 12 years, so your beach photo is very appreciated. Best of Luck. Beach Daddy
beachdaddy,
Thanks for your recommendation. I will check into that. It sounds interesting. I've been to Key West when my son lived in South Beach, and had one of the best times ever!!! We spent 4 days, and then went back 3 days later for 3 more days! It was a blast! Don't you miss Key West? I wish I could live there, 'cus I love the beach, and found the people so colorful! Have a great day, and again, thank you for the info!
Trish
What a wonderful pic of the beach!! My prayers are with you all. I took care of my mom for a few years before she passed on with heart problems. I love ANY beach, I can only imagine how beautiful the black sands of Dominica!! I LOVE FLORIDA, and am trying to figure out a way to be in Florida this winter, and escape Michigans brutal winter, Where theres a will theres a way!!! God Bless, wandagail
I love your beach photo! I'm sitting here FREEZING in Michigan, and it warmed me up a little. My prayers are with you, I know how challenging caring for a loved one can be. Have a great day. Wanda
