A Letter from a Passionate, Concerned American

This letter was submitted to both the Dallas Morning News and the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

How can you possibly be a "stale mate" for health care in America ?

We voted for change that is long past due, and you are being flies in the ointment. Don't you care that millions of Americans don't have health care?

Oh, yes, I remember... you're not affected... you have the best care in America . Don't you get it? Just because you can go to the finest doctors whenever you choose doesn't mean all Americans can. Now get off the fence, get to work and get this thing passed. And don't even think about going on any kind of break until this is done. How could you in good conscience leave without passing health care and have a good time when a girl is dying of leukemia because of lack of health care? You have the power to do something about health care. And we Americans want you to get this done, now.

I have confidence there's enough brain power in Washington to iron out the details... quit politicizing.
And I know that health insurance lobbyists and campaign monies affect your decisions, but don't sacrifice Americans to line your coffers!!!

Get on this issue as though it is your daughter who is dying and needs medical attention. I bet you wouldn't hesitate then.

A passionate, concerned American,

Wanda Zamorano
Irving, TX

Enough of this B.S. from AARP. Lets band together and get a new ceo who really cares about our age group, not this Washington puppet. I am sure we members have the power to vote him out. He is forgetting where he came from. He is not any better than our congress

To kestrel 2008:

AARP has done an extensive analysis of the bill. Health care reform will NOT give the government the power to make life or death decisions for anyone regardless of their age. Under the current proposal, no one, including the government or your insurance company will be given power to make life-and-death decisions for your. The House bill simply provides an optional benefit to help individuals and families talk with their doctors in advance about difficult choices every family faces when loved ones are near the end of their lives. This will ensure that individuals' wishes -- whatever those are -- are respected. These consultations are completely optional. There is no requirement for doctors or individuals to have them, and those that choose to do so are NOT required to fill out or sign any advanced directive or living will.

I recently saw the AARP Town Hall Meeting on Health Care - Dallas, August 4, 2009 on YouTube, I was totally disappointed in how the Rep from AARP conducted herself. I am also disappoint in the AARP organization in backing Obama's Health Care plan when it is still in the working stage, how can you back something like this when we are not really sure what is in it, as it keeps changing. We will get nothing but a bag of worms if you don't listen to the AARP members. It is obvious your members are not backing the plan as it now stands. I have not gone so far as to say I will cancel my membership but at this point I am disappointed with AARP's Management, I will be checking out the web site for American Seniors Association to see what their view point stands.I will also be sending American Seniors Association web site to my friends and family to have them review their site. Disappointed Member, John and Glenda Houston Texas "In God We Trust", Copy of this sent to AARP,Tom Nelson, Chief Operating Officer,601 E Street N.W.,Washington, DC 20049, WE DO NOT BELIEVE or TRUST IN OBAMACARE!!!!!

I'm thinking that the math on this "MILLIONS" Americans is flawed. Let's do a citizenship check and I'll bet the number goes down.

AARP please choose your words carefully. We hope you will listen to your membership unlike this Administration who does not listen to the American people.

There is no HOPE in TAXING the rich who create the jobs and pay the taxes. The guy that predicted the recent history stock market crashed predicted that within 4 years America would be like a third world country. I do not think this is the change you so dearly want. I know I did not vote for the HOPE and CHANGE because I could see the wiggle in the snake from day one

So are AARP members ready for their "Dying with Dignity" counseling sessions? Are you ready to die when the government declares it financial appropriate? It is true that we can treat all the illegals but without more doctors and facilties it means taking those treatments away from the senior citizens (AARP members). I for one would rather decide when I die myself

I agree that we need to make sure all citizens are taken care of but this bill is not the way to do it. We need to quit covering the illegals that are in our country, get the scam artist off the government payroll and put a stop to nonsense lawsuits, etc. If we concentrate on cutting all the waste and nonsense then we could offer care to those in need.
