Leo Racine is a retired social worker from Bellevue, Nebraska. Community aging services provided by the Eastern Nebraska Office on Aging have helped Leo return home and be productive in the community despite repeated hospital stays. He receives in-home assistance with daily activities four days a week. which allows him to maintain his independence and quality of life. Leo is a strong advocate for increasing federal and state funding for home and community-based services to avoid more costly institutional care. "There's no question that without these services, I'd be in a nursing home," he says. "I know that my spirit is alive and well and loud because I can stay in my own home."
