AARP Reacts to Senate Decision to Delay Health Care Reform Vote

Washington – AARP today reacted to the Senate’s decision to put off voting on health care reform legislation until after the August recess.  A statement from AARP Executive Vice President Nancy LeaMond follows:

“AARP is disappointed in the failure to reach agreement on passing comprehensive health care reform until after the August recess.  The millions of people impacted by high drug costs and those that can’t get adequate health insurance because of age or a pre-existing condition need help now.  An August of waiting will not lower costs, increase access or improve quality.  Few understand the enormous challenge of this task better than AARP.  We have been working to reform health care for more than 50 years and we know this is difficult.  But Congress needs to get this done.  American families simply cannot afford Washington’s stalemate any longer.”

Thank God it has been delayed! I hope it does not pass! The American people do not want the Government Takeover of the healthcare system, reform yes but not socialized medicine! Why don't they fix Social Security and Medicare? AARP better represent the members properly instead of "folding" to this socialist driven administration. AARP do not take our freedom to speak against this bill lightly!

AARP is not representing it's members. I am not sure who they are representing. They have sold out the members and have some agenda that has nothing to do with member opinions. The "Health Care Reform" legislation is all about destroying Medicare as it currently exists and rationing care especially to older citizens. This is to somehow help a small minority and will ultimately bankrupt the country. AARP needs to listen to it's members and represent them

I am glad that this bill wil have to wait until later to be voted on. I can only hope that it goes thru some serious changes before going to the Senate. Most AARP members are NOT in agreement with the present HR3200. This bill rations healthcare for the elderly and disabled. Seniors are thought of by the present administration as old and useless drainers on the SS and Medicare. Mr. Rand of AARP has done the members of AARP a serious disservice in announcing that AARP backs the HR3200. This stance by Mr. Rand will ultimately cost AARP many members
