AARP Alaska volunteered at a Habitat for Humanity site in Anchorage for our 2008 Day of Service. The work crew included AARP Alaska state office staff, AARP chapter volunteers, and families who will one day live in the homes. Starting the day in near-freezing temperatures, we placed siding on the exterior of the home, buried communications cables, worked on a retaining wall and constructed scaffolding for painting. Even though the work was very physically demanding it was incredibly rewarding to work side by side with people who will ultimately be able to call the four walls, home. Prospective home owners know they must invest sweat equity into a Habitat for Humanity project and during our May 8 Day of Service, we witnessed these future home owners living up to that commitment.
