About Me

I was born 3 blocks to the east. My gravesite is about 10 blocks to the west. I have always lived here. My immediate family lives within blocks. How's that for setting down roots. I have never been married. 6 1/4 years ago , I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. I kind of entered the medical field from the wrong end. I do remodeling of homes for a living.

Hello 1Carp1,
In 2006 I was diagnosis with Type II Diabetes. It appears that the women in our family are diagnosised in their 50's. I take my meds daily, and been taken off Insulin about 4 months ago (which I used maybe 1 x weekly) The doctor said it was my quick fix, and that by remaining on my diet, I am down to 1 - 5 mg pill a day. Exercise, diet and the right doctor you can control, and not the other way around. Hang in there and follow your doctors instructions. I don't take B/P meds, because I run lower then most adults. I still work full time. If you would like to talk email me. Fawneyes

I'm in the medical field and have seen what diabetes (type 2) can do to peoples lives. Hang in there, lots of little healthy snacks during the day and taking/ logging your sugar readings regularly. There are lots of new medications on the market now but education is the key. Good luck to you!

About 6 years ago I entered a research program (as a guinea pig) looking into treatment for type 2 diabetes. At the time, I had been on oral diabetes medication for 9 years and on medication for blood pressure for 28 years. The program, AHEAD, consists of changing lifestyle to include more exercise and control of diet. After 5 weeks, I was off all medication, and have been since. My diabetes is in remission. Not everyone had the success I did, but it is possible.

Best wishes.
Doug
