NPR Political Editor Ken Rudin began collecting political buttons as a teenager in the "small town" of the Bronx, N.Y., in what he recalls as a "lonely" childhood. His collection began with the 1966 elections, after which he had a shoebox full of buttons.

Today he has added a few shoeboxes and estimates his collection has grown to 75,000 buttons. Here he shows us some buttons and talks about their role in campaign history and more.
