THEY MADE HISTORY

Christopher Robin Milne with his Teddy Bear

AUGUST 21, 1858

In a preview of their battle for president two years later, Senate candidates Abraham Lincoln and Stephen A. Douglas begin a series of seven debates in Illinois about slavery. Each speaks for an hour, with 30 minutes to then rebut the other.

1920: Christopher Robin Milne is born in London to author A.A. Milne and his wife, Daphne. The boy inspires his father’s most famous works: two volumes of stories and two of poetry starring Christopher Robin and his bear, Winnie-the-Pooh.
