Answers to AARP on the Issues Questions

Q: How does AARP determine its legislative policies?
A: AARP's policies are determined not by the staff in Washington, D.C., but by AARP members. We gather members' ideas from town meetings, phone calls, letters, emails, surveys and polls. These policies are published annually in "The Policy Book: AARP Public Policies." For more, visit the Public Policy Web page.

Q: What is AARP's position on prescription drugs?
A: AARP believes that millions of older Americans and their families will be helped by this legislation. Though far from perfect, the bill represents an historic breakthrough and important milestone in the nation's commitment to strengthen and expand health security for its citizens at a time when it is sorely needed. Q: What are AARP's priorities on social issues?
A: For complete information, please visit AARP's Public Policy Web page.

Q: Does AARP support proposals to "privatize" Social Security?
A: No. AARP strongly opposes proposals to "privatize" Social Security. Privatization would move it away from a social insurance program to one composed, at least partially, of individual investment accounts that are funded with a percentage of current payroll taxes. For more details on privatization, please visit the following Web pages:

Q: How can I access research studies conducted by AARP?
A: Visit AARP Policy & Research to find online versions of all publicly available AARP research, including member and non-member surveys, Public Policy Institute reports, issue briefs and data digests.
