Q &A
Why isn't the automobile insurance available in Massachusetts?
The AARP Insurance Services Department monitors all member communication and correspondence regarding their insurance concerns. I can certainly understand your disappointment in discovering that the AARP Automobile Insurance Program is not available in your state.
On May 15, 1992, The Hartford Insurance Group withdrew from the personal automobile insurance market in Massachusetts. The withdrawal was the result of the continued losses that The Hartford had experienced, primarily from the involuntary assigned risk assessments in the state. Massachusetts has a state controlled system where discounts, coverage and premium rates are the same for all policyholders. In fact, none of the special features of the AARP Program are available to Massachusetts policyholders. Therefore, due to the insurance environment in Massachusetts, the Program is not available.

Q &A
Why can't I get Homeowners' insurance in Florida?
On October 1, 2002, AARP and The Hartford made a painful decision to discontinue accepting new homeowners' insurance applications for the state of Florida. This was based on the fact that the insurance market in Florida is very vulnerable and many companies have stopped offering coverage, which meant that the AARP Program was being inundated with requests for insurance. The Hartford and AARP were concerned that if we continued to accept new business, that the AARP Program would be over exposed in your state. If that were to happen, and there was a major catastrophe in the state, The Hartford might not be able to meet the needs of their existing policyholders in your state.
In 2004 The Hartford was able to add some members who were on the waiting list. AARP will continue to look for ways to provide our members coverage in the future.
AARP does not endorse another company for homeowners insurance in the state of Florida. Right now, it would be virtually impossible to find a company that would be willing to accept all the AARP members, who live in Florida and are in need of homeowners insurance. We are sorry that the AARP Program is not available to our members living in Florida and can only suggest they continue to shop around.

Q &A
How can I compare AARP's plan to others?
You may visit www.medicare.gov. This site will allow you to find a list of providers and pharmacies that participate in your area. It will also let you compare premiums and co-pays.
Can you explain how the doughnut hole works?
When Medicare Part D beneficiaries reach their coverage gap, Medicare allows
them to go outside of their insurance provider plan to purchase prescriptions.
Often people in the gap find it is cheaper to shop around than to pay the
insurance plan's price because prices vary from store to store and plan to
plan.
Background The coverage gap begins after a beneficiary has incurred total drug costs (deductibles, co pays, and plan-covered costs) in excess of $2,250. [Note that premiums do not count toward this amount.] After a beneficiary's total out-of-pocket costs for the year (excluding premiums) reach $3,600, catastrophic coverage kicks in.

Q &A
Why was I declined for life insurance when your advertisement says that you can't be denied?
If you have been denied life insurance, you applied for either the Term Life Plan or the Permanent Life Plan. Both of these plans do require that you provide medical history information. Since these plans ask medical questions, not all applicants will be eligible. However, the AARP Life Insurance Program also offers the Guaranteed Acceptance Plan. The premiums for the Guaranteed Acceptance Plan are higher than with either Term Life or Permanent Life but you cannot be turned down for any reason.

Do not include your AARP membership dues in the same check as your Dental premium. You will need to write a separate check for each.

Q &A
Why didn't AARP Passport have the lowest price?
AARP Passport Program may not always be the lowest in the marketplace for every situation. AARP members will however, see very competitive rates when they book the total package trips with hotel, car rental and air fare all together.
Because of the numerous competitive offers available today, AARP does encourage our members to shop and compare. Naturally, you would want to accept the best rate available.
Chase

Website: http://www.aarp.org/aarp_benefits/offer_financial/credit_card.html
Q &A
Why did my APR increase?
Every six months Chase will review all of their accounts and order credit reports. If there is derogatory information in a card holder's credit report, or they receive a low credit score, this could be cause for a change in the APR. In addition, Chase looks at the whole picture and takes into consideration changes personal financial information. Below are a few examples of the information they consider:
After reviewing all the above information, if Chase feels that the credit history has changed, then they have the option of increasing the ARP. You will find this disclosure outlined in the Card Holder Agreement that you received when you opened the account. It will read as such: "Changing This Agreement: "We can change this Agreement, including all fees and the annual percentage rate, at any time."
While AARP attempts to offer its members quality products with competitive rates, we do not have any control over a cardholder's personal financial information. If Chase has determined that the risk on an account has changed and they see the need to increase the APR, AARP is not in a position to reverse their decision. Once you have reviewed a copy of your credit report and feel that it contains incorrect information, you may certainly submit the correct information to Chase for reconsideration.

Q &A
Why isn't the Motoring Plan available in my state?
Some states require the motoring plan to submit their plan each year. During the time the State reviews the plan new enrollees will not be able to sign up until it's approved. This does not affect existing members of the Motoring Plan.
