Job Training and Placement
The AARP Foundation’s Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP) provides work-place training and job-placement services that allow low-income Americans to return to work, gain an improved standard of living, attain a greater sense of security and remain productive members of the community.
Program staff and volunteers help locate employment opportunities and make permanent placements that match skills and abilities. The Foundation’s temporary placement program enables participants to earn a modest salary while taking part in on-the-job training programs at local community services agencies. The experience helps build self-confidence as individuals transition into permanent, unsubsidized job placements outside the program.
There continues to be a steady increase in the number of people who benefit from our job-training and placement efforts – contributing millions of hours of community service through their work-training assignments. What’s more, more than 50% often move on to full – and part-time jobs in the public and private arenas – representing the highest job placement rate in the country among similar programs.
