AARP Foundation Disaster Relief and Recovery Fund: Making a Difference
The AARP Foundation continues to make a difference in the Gulf Coast region with disaster relief and recovery grants to local, state and national organizations. Grantees serve older victims of recent hurricanes through case management, home rehabilitation, legal services, and immediate needs provision. The Foundation has issued 61 grants totaling $2.5 million to organizations operating on the ground in Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas.
To date the program has served 17,117 people directly and an additional 290,271 through information and outreach. Leveraging a $500,000 grant from the Corporation for National and Community Service the Foundation’s Partners for Independence program has contributed an additional $1 million to the region.
