AARP Services Inc. Announces the Appointment of Larry Renfro as President and Chief Executive Officer

WASHINGTON – AARP Services, Inc., the wholly owned taxable subsidiary of AARP, today announced the appointment of Larry Renfro as President and Chief Executive Officer. Since 2005, Renfro has served as both Chief Operating Officer of AARP Services Inc. and President of AARP Financial, a subsidiary of AARP Services, Inc.

“In both financial services and health care, Larry Renfro has been the architect behind our relationships with providers that offer products and services to help our members gain access to affordable, quality healthcare and increase their financial security,” said Bill Novelli, Chief Executive Officer of AARP.

“The mission of AARP Services is to focus on key issues facing our members and execute on ways we can transform the marketplace to better meet people’s needs,” said Renfro. “I am committed to continuing the high pace of growth and innovation of AARP Services and finding new ways to improve the lives of our members.”

Renfro will maintain his role as President of AARP Financial, which began operations in September 2005. He led the team that created AARP Financial, the AARP Funds, and other financial programs. Renfro also remains President of AARP Funds, a mutual fund family offering a simple, no-nonsense approach to investing for retirement.

Previously, Renfro served as Principal and Founder of Devonshire Financial Group, a strategic financial services consulting firm. Prior to that, he was Chairman and CEO of NewRiver, Inc., a leading supplier of electronic and print-on-demand compliance services to the financial services industry.

As Vice President and group executive at Allmerica Financial, Renfro was responsible for sales, marketing, product development, operations and retirement operations, cash management, and information systems. During his tenure, Renfro also served as chairman, president and CEO of Allmerica Trust Company, N.A., and led the formation and the on-going operation of 440 Financial, a distributor, administrator, and transfer agent for major financial institutions.

Prior to Allmerica, Renfro was executive vice president of State Street Bank & Trust Company, with responsibility for Mutual Fund Services. He also served as chief executive officer of Boston Financial Data Services. Renfro began his career at Fidelity Investments, where he held several senior positions, including president of Fidelity Retail Services, managing director of Fidelity Management and Research and president of Fidelity Information Services, the company’s call center.

Renfro received his bachelor’s degree from Western Kentucky University.
