WASHINGTON – AARP Foundation and global charity auction site Charitybuzz today launched an online auction featuring once-in-a-lifetime NASCAR experiences that also help end hunger. The “Drive to End Hunger Online Auction” is open at Charitybuzz.com/JeffGordon now through August 28 to give fans a chance to have dinner with members of the No. 24 Drive to End Hunger Chevrolet Pit Crew, get VIP passes to visit Pit Road on raceday at select races and much more.
Other packages include an exclusive tour of the Hendrick Motorsports Campus, a phone call with four-time NASCAR Cup Series champion Jeff Gordon, and memorabilia from his milestone 85th win celebration.
“We’re thrilled to be working with Charitybuzz to offer NASCAR fans another great way to be part of the No. 24 Drive to End Hunger team,” said Jo Ann Jenkins, president of AARP Foundation. “This online auction will not only help put food on the table for people in need, but there are also some great packages up for auction that any NASCAR fan is sure to love.”
“If I were you, I’d focus on the raceday experience package or the great memorabilia,” said Gordon, driver of the No. 24 Drive to End Hunger Chevrolet SS for Hendrick Motorsports. “I’ve seen the guys on the pit crew eat. With their appetite, you may have to guard your food.”
Proceeds from the auction will benefit the hunger solutions of AARP Foundation. Through its Drive to End Hunger program, AARP Foundation is helping the nearly nine million Americans age 50-plus who face the risk of hunger by providing needed meals in the short term and developing sustainable solutions to prevent hunger in the long term.
Since AARP and AARP Foundation launched Drive to End Hunger, the initiative has donated nearly 23 million meals and driven individual and organizational donor commitments with an expected value of more than $20 million. Drive to End Hunger also helped thousands of people put food on the table through community food donations and meal packaging events, as well as helping people apply for the USDA’s Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, which helped generate more than $25 million in local economic activity.
