Expert Communications Strategist Jeffrey Davis Joins AARP to Lead Media Relations Group

WASHINGTON, DC – AARP today announced that veteran communications expert Jeffrey Davis has joined the Association to head up its media relations group. As senior vice president of media relations, Davis also will provide strategic communications counsel at the highest levels of the organization.

Davis joins AARP from the Association of Public Television Stations, where he served as vice president of communications. As primary media spokesperson for the organization and a key member of the APTS senior leadership team, he provided strategic communications counsel, policy analysis, consultation and advice to the CEO and Board of Trustees on a range of policy and legislative issues.

“We are so pleased that Jeff is heading up our outstanding media relations team. His experience in high-profile advocacy and communications campaigns is second to none, and I look forward to the contributions he’ll make not only to his team, but also as a trusted advisor to senior leaders across the organization,” said AARP Chief Communications Officer Kevin Donnellan.

A skilled political, legal and communications professional, Davis has experience in both the public and private sectors. He is a veteran of Capitol Hill, serving as senior legislative assistant to Rep. Constance Morella (R-MD) and legislative counsel for Rep. Edolphus Towns (D-NY). Davis served as Rep. Morella’s lead staffer in her role as co-chair of House Older Americans Caucus, where he gained experience protecting the interests of the 50+ in congressional consideration of the Older Americans Act, Medicare Reform and Social Security Reform. He also helped protect the retirement security and health care interests of retired federal employees in the Federal Employee Health Benefits Plan (FEHBP) and the Federal Employees Group Life Insurance Program (FEGLI).

Davis was a chief architect of the Federal Employee Long-Term Care Act, which created a long term care insurance program for retired and active federal employees and military personnel. Other legislation authored by Davis and signed into law includes the Federal Child Care Act and the Thrift Savings Plan Enhancement Act.

Davis has a BA with honors in Political Science and Economics from Stanford University and a JD from the University of Michigan Law School.  Follow him on Twitter at @JeffDavis_AARP.
