AARP's Life@50+ National Event & Expo Comes to Washington, DC September 4-6, 2008

Regis Philbin, “Magic” Johnson, Martina Navratilova, Maya Angelou and Paul Simon Among Those Headlining AARP 50th Anniversary Celebration

Washington, DC – AARP, one of the world's largest member organizations with over 39 million members is bringing its annual Life@50+ National Event & Expo to Washington, DC on September 4-6, 2008. This national event for AARP members and their friends and families will have something for everyone with exhibits, experts and entertainment at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center.

“Life@50+ is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate our 50th anniversary,” said AARP CEO Bill Novelli. “We’re hosting perhaps the world’s biggest birthday party to honor our members and celebrate our heritage with an experience that redefines life after 50. Every 7 seconds someone, somewhere turns 50. We look forward connecting with our young-at-heart members at Life@50+ and building on our successes to create new legacies for the next 50 years.”

More than 27,500 AARP members and their friends from across the country and around the world will gather in Washington, DC to connect with others, learn something new, and have fun during AARP’s National Event & Expo Life@50+. In addition to exciting concerts by Paul Simon and the band Chicago, attendees will also experience extensive lifestyle and education exhibits and speakers featuring such notables as poet Maya Angelou; television icon Regis Philbin; baseball hall-of-famer Cal Ripken, Jr.; music impresario Quincy Jones; fashion consultant Clinton Kelly; legendary folk singer Judy Collins; political pundits Paul Begala and Tucker Carlson; Academy Award winner Shirley MacLaine; TV fitness guru Bob Harper; rock star Gene Simmons; female sexual health expert Dr. Laura Berman; and “Desperate Housewives” actor Ricardo Chavira.

AARP is pleased to welcome UnitedHealth Group and Walgreens as Platinum sponsors for the 2008 Life@50+ event. Additionally, some 300 exhibits will feature new and future technologies, model homes and appliances, travel and leisure destinations, and other products and services.

Thursday, September 4th

AARP will kick off the event with a show featuring Regis Philbin. AARP University and Lifestyle sessions will take place throughout the day. Topics include world travel and online dating, among others. Academy Award winning actress and author Shirley MacLaine will be the final speaker followed by dancing the night away at AARP Studio 50+ Nightclubs.

Friday, September 5th

Bob Harper of NBC’s hit show “The Biggest Loser” will start the day right with a morning fitness session. AARP University and Lifestyle sessions will take place throughout the day. Speakers include “What Not to Wear” co-host Clinton Kelly, Earvin “Magic” Johnson, Judy Collins and Cal Ripken, Jr. The evening entertainment will include shows by Chicago and Ramsey Lewis.

Saturday, September 6th

A morning fitness session with tennis great Martina Navratilova will start our final day, followed by a closing day session with Maya Angelou and Quincy Jones. AARP University and Lifestyle sessions will take place throughout the day featuring Tucker Carlson and Paul Begala, Gene Simmons and others. The evening will finish with a Paul Simon concert.

Admission to Life@50+ for AARP members is $20, for non-members, $30. The entry fee includes access to Exhibitions, Exhibit Floor Performance Stage, Opening and Closing Shows, and Educational Sessions for all three days at one great price. Concert tickets start at $25.
