Grannies on Safari Team up with AARP for Launch of 3rd Season on PBS

Grannies on Safari® Team up with AARP for Launch of 3rd Season on PBS

Travel hosts will help encourage viewers to discover “What’s Next”

WASHINGTON (May 12, 2011)—In their continued effort to encourage Americans age 50+ to live life to the fullest and discover the best of what’s next, AARP has signed on to sponsor PBS’ Emmy® award-winning series, Grannies on Safari®. Hosted by Chicagoans and AARP members Regina Fraser and Pat Johnson, the program chronicles the travel adventures of these two women who reinvented themselves in their 60’s to live their dream as hosts of their own travel show. The duo, who introduced the series in 2006, debuts their 3rd season on PBS stations across the United States beginning May 15th.

“Every week, Regina and Pat show us what many of our members understand – that life after 50 can still be full of learning, adventure, and succeeding through challenges,” said Emilio Pardo, AARP’s EVP and Chief Brand Officer. “They are inspirational, daring, and fun to watch – we just love the show.”

After long corporate careers, raising grandchildren and surviving breast cancer, Regina and Pat left their day jobs to pursue their dream: traveling.  Now, they find inspiration in the people they meet and interview. Through their adventures, viewers not only see exotic tourist spots, but share in Regina and Pat’s experiences from around the world. Viewers also learn about ways to “give back” to communities in need.  For fellow boomer generations, the Grannies are proof that a “second act” can happen…and that no matter what age, it’s okay and fun to reinvent yourself.

Having travelled to more than 115 countries, Regina and Pat have plenty of tips to share with their audience—everything from packing eco-friendly disposable wipes, to savvy prescription advice or having the right cell phone for emergencies.  They also encourage and guide fellow “boomers” on how best to travel.  As travel experts, they shed a unique light on art, culture, shopping and cuisine from all corners of the world, and now their expertise and advice will be available to AARP’s audience through AARP’s Website, www.aarp.org. Consumers can look forward to videos about the TV series, regular blogs about their adventures, and a global photo gallery.

The Grannies on Safari® travel show is presented by WTTW National Productions and airs throughout the world on the UK Travel Channel in 120 countries.  To learn more about the “Grannies” visit www.granniesonsafari.com.
