AARP Commends the Senate for MovingForward on Financial Reform
Senate Actions Mirror Broad Support of Reform that Puts Consumers Ahead of Financial Institutions
WASHINGTON – AARP Executive Vice President Nancy LeaMond issued the following statement in response to the Senate vote to bring the financial reform legislation to the Senate floor:
“AARP is extremely pleased by today’s bipartisan movement toward financial reform. Recent AARP polling showed that Americans 50-plus – whether Republican, Democrat or Independent – overwhelmingly say they want reform of the financial industry that brings transparency and accountability for consumers and investors.
“Over the last three years, older Americans have lost billions of hard earned dollars due to the failure of an outdated and compromised financial regulatory system. Investors deserve to know the benefits and the risks involved in the products they are buying, and their retirement security should not be compromised by reckless behavior on the part of bad actors.
“We look forward to working with the Senate to pass the strongest bill possible that will protect the rights of consumers and help restore trust in our financial markets.”
