Washington, DC – The Internal Revenue Service, the U.S. Small Business Administration Office of Disaster Assistance and the Peace Corps today became the first federal agencies to join AARP’s National Employer Team.
AARP’s National Employer Team program connects 50+ workers with employers who recognize the value of their experience and skills. National Employment Team employers undertake a detailed application process to demonstrate their interest in hiring mature workers. AARP’s website also provides information on the employers and the positions they have posted on their websites, along with links to each employer’s AARP career page.
“Our National Employer Team members recognize the changes occurring in the labor force,” said Deborah Russell, AARP’s Director of Workforce Issues. “In the next three to five years, the federal government could potentially lose over a third of its workforce to retirement. Attracting 50+ workers is an excellent way to prepare for such an enormous shift.
“AARP’s National Employer Team members come from fields ranging from retail to travel to security with positions spanning the gap from tax examiners for the Internal Revenue Service to country directors for the Peace Corps,” added Russell. “Boomers’ experience provides a valuable resource to employers that face worker shortages in many diverse areas.”
The IRS has posted various full-time positions, the Small Business Administration has posted seasonal positions to assist in disaster relief efforts, and the Peace Corps has posted full-time, part-time and volunteer positions supporting its volunteers around the world.
Today, AARP also announced that six other employers have joined the National Employer Team: AnswerNet, Bright Horizons Family Solutions, Home Instead Senior Care, Scripps Health, Synergy HomeCare and Vedior North America. These members join a team of notable National Employer Team members including: Walgreens, Borders Group and Home Depot.
