AARP's National Retired Teachers Association works with the National Institute on Retirement Security (NIRS), established to promote understanding of the value that defined benefit pensions play in ensuring retirement security for workers, as well as their value to employers and the economy.

We also support the work of the National Institute on Retirement Security (NIRS), a research and education not-for-profit organization in Washington, D.C. NIRS was established to fill a gap in understanding on the value that defined benefit pensions play in ensuring retirement security for workers, as well as their value to employers and the economy.

Active and retired educators now can access NIRS products and services at no cost through NRTA. NIRS programs and information serve as valuable tools to help educate national and local policymakers and stakeholders about teacher retirement issues. NRTA and NIRS will continue to work together to help ensure that public pensions remain the cornerstone of retirement security for America’s teachers.
