Matt Mitchell is executive vice president and chief information officer (CIO) for AARP. He is responsible for developing leading-edge capabilities, and ensuring high-quality and cost-effective delivery of technology solutions and services in support of AARP's mission and goals. Mr. Mitchell has direct responsibility for all technology development, infrastructure and operations services across the organization.
Mr. Mitchell has held a number of senior executive positions and has more than 18 years of experience in information technology delivery and management. Prior to joining AARP in 2006, he was recruited to be the first vice president and CIO for Denver, Colorado-based Cenveo, one of the nation's largest commercial print, envelope and fulfillment companies. In that capacity, Mr. Mitchell created and consolidated the IT department into a shared service across a 10,000-employee base. He led the transformation from print to digital delivery of services for Cenveo's prominent Fortune 500 customers, including American Express and Starwood Hotels. His leadership enabled customers to increase their efficiency, deepen their customer relationships and enhance their brand. While at Cenveo, he also led the company's Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) initiative for 37 ERP applications, and re-engineered and created standardized processes across the company's 30 commercial plants.
Previously, Mr. Mitchell served as vice president for information services at ARAMARK Educational Resources, where he was responsible for technology services in support of the organization's goals of serving children and their families. While there, he developed and implemented a new customer-centric strategy incorporating e-commerce technologies and database marketing and integration.
Prior to that he was with USWEST Media Group, where he had direct oversight of operations, database marketing and strategic planning. He also managed the firm's customer loyalty programs, which served 14 million customers.
In addition to his day-to-day responsibilities, Mr. Mitchell serves as chairman of the board of Greater DC Cares, a local community nonprofit. He also serves on the advisory boards of early-stage technology start-ups.
Mr. Mitchell has a degree in business administration and a masters of business administration degree from the University of California, Irvine.
