Jeff Bauman has been recognized as an American hero after suffering grave injuries in the April 2013 Boston Marathon bombing and helping law enforcement officials capture the suspects. Bauman was waiting at the marathon’s finish life for his girlfriend who was running in support of a local charity when a man in dark clothing furtively dropped a backpack several feet away. When it exploded, Bauman lost both of his legs.
A peace activist named Carlos Arredondo rescued Bauman who, after his surgery, was able to give FBI agents a description of the suspect. Since then Bauman – a former Costco employee, musician and Boston sports fan – has been a beacon of hope, strength and resilience.
