Martin Yan is a master chef and a widely respected expert on Chinese cooking who has hosted more than 3,000 cooking shows worldwide and authored 30 cookbooks. Born in Guangzhou, China, to a restaurateur father and a mother who operated a grocery store, Yan was passionate about cooking at an early age. After refining his talent at the Overseas Institute of Cookery in Hong Kong, he discovered his flair for teaching while a graduate student in food science at the University of California Davis.
In 1978, he pioneered a daily Chinese cooking show, the now-classic Yan Can Cook. Also a restaurateur, he has established two pan-Asian restaurants.
