
Levar Burton is a versatile actor, director, producer and writer. He burst onto the scene by portraying Kunta Kinte in Roots while an undergraduate at USC. Starring roles in TV films followed, including One in a Million: The Ron Leflore Story and A Roots Christmas: Kunta Kinte’s Gift.
A science fiction buff, Burton directed numerous episodes of the four most recent Star Trek series. To boost children’s literacy, he hosted the PBS series Reading Rainbow for 25 seasons.
Burton now works as a film and television director. He received three Emmy nominations for directing The Tiger Woods Story on Showtime. His most recent film is Reach for Me, starring Alfre Woodard and Seymour Cassel.
