Alex Roberts, who is the chef/owner of three restaurants in Minneapolis, Minnesota, received the James Beard Award for Best Chef: Midwest in 2010. After working in local kitchens during high school and college, he moved to New York City in 1993 to attend the French Culinary Institute. He then gained experience at renowned restaurants including Gramercy Tavern and Union Square Café.
Roberts returned to Minneapolis to open Restaurant Alma in 1999. That casual-fine dining restaurant and both locations of a second concept – Brasa Rotisserie – feature organic vegetables grown by Roberts’ father, Don, on his small Wisconsin farm.
