Mary Matalin is one of the nation’s foremost Republican political strategists and commentators. She has been active in politics since college, starting at the grassroots level in her native Illinois. The Reagan Revolution brought her to Washington, where she worked at the Republican National Committee. Following service as deputy campaign manager on President George H. W. Bush’s 1992 re-election bid, she was assistant to President George W. Bush and counselor to Vice President Dick Cheney. Now a political contributor for CNN, Matalin also runs Threshold, a conservative publishing division of Simon & Schuster. She and her husband, James Carville, have two daughters.
