En español | 2011 was a volatile year, as many people continued to struggle in an uncertain economy. Leaders in Washington failed to confront growing national financial problems. More middle-class families teetered on the edge of poverty, and many low-income families saw their hopes of achieving the American dream fade. Despite these trying times, AARP members pulled together to create positive social change.

The stories below demonstrate the energy, imagination and passion of AARP members. Whether you were inspired by an article in one of our publications, took advantage of a money-saving discount or gave back through a volunteer opportunity, I hope you got the most from your membership in 2011.

Here’s to a happy and healthy 2012!
