Shirley MacLaine
Shirley MacLaine - a dancer, singer, author and highly regarded actress - is among Hollywood's most unique stars. A five-time Academy Award nominee, she won a Best Actress Award for playing quirky matriarch Aurora Greenway in Terms of Endearment.
She took dance lessons from age two, first performed in public at age four and made her Broadway debut as a chorus girl at 16. After appearing in "The Pajama Game," she moved to Hollywood to begin her film career in Hitchcock's The Trouble with Harry.
MacLaine's film credits include Being There, Madame Sousatzka, Steel Magnolias, Guarding Tess, Evening Star and, most recently, Bewitched. She earned her first Oscar nomination for Some Came Running and displayed her dancing talents in Can-Can. She appeared with "Rat Packers" Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis, Jr. and Peter Lawford in Ocean's Eleven, and earned her fourth nomination for The Turning Point.
But there's more to MacLaine than her big-screen personas. She participated in Robert Kennedy's 1968 presidential campaign, served as a Democratic Convention delegate, and was similarly involved in George McGovern's 1972 campaign. She also has written a number of books, including her experiences with the Rat Pack (My Lucky Stars) and several best-sellers on new age beliefs and her personal journeys (Out on a Limb, and Dancing in the Light).
Today, MacLaine is known for her faith in reincarnation, angels and the power of crystals and unorthodox beliefs. She has created a website www.ShirleyMacLaine.com to help people explore alternative views on health, wellbeing and aging. Her latest newest book, Sage-ing While Age-ing, confronts the realities of growing older.
