The AARP Foundation Women’s Leadership Circle gathers for its first Womenvision Summit this week at the Westin La Paloma in Tucson, Arizona. Three days of workshops and panel discussions will bring together women leaders from AARP, business, academia, media and entertainment. The summit program will explore a range of topics of importance to women 50+, from redefining the aging experience to laying the groundwork for a healthy and secure retirement.

“The Womenvision Summit provides an opportunity for this diverse group of powerful, influential women to discuss and address the unique opportunities and challenges women face as we age,” said Robin Talbert, executive director of the AARP Foundation. “We want all women to experience a healthy and financially secure future and the Women’s Leadership Circle can help us accomplish this goal.”

Featured speakers and panelists at the Summit include Muriel “Mickie” Seibert, the first woman member of the NYSE, Grammy winners Naomi Judd and Linda Ronstadt, philanthropist Teresa Heinz Kerry, veteran journalist Cristina Saralegui and financial expert Julie Stav. Filmmaker CC Goldwater screens her film Mr. Conservative: Goldwater on Goldwater Friday evening. On Thursday, Summit participants can test their swings with LPGA player Renee Powell. Concerts by legendary performers Tony Bennett and Diahann Carroll will open and close the weekend of activities.

“I am pleased to be a part of the wonderful work of the AARP Foundation’s Women’s Leadership Circle. The Womenvision Summit will encourage us to challenge the antiquated stereotypes of what it means to be a mature woman in this society—and empower us, as women leaders, to change that perspective,” said Cristina Saralegui, a 30-year veteran journalist and host of Univision’s The Cristina Show. Saralegui will moderate Friday’s panel discussion “Redefining the res of Women As We Age.”

Events for the Womenvision Summit kick off Wednesday evening with an invitation-only concert by Tony Bennett. Participants enjoyeded golf and tennis clinics on Thursday or attended a variety of workshops on writing, personal finance and community service. Friday and Saturday will feature the main program of panels on women and aging, as well as discussions on small business, workplace success, women’s health and global climate change. CNN Business News Correspondent Valerie Morris will serve as Emcee for the program of events. Tony-winner Diahann Carroll will close the weekend Saturday evening with a performance at the Summit’s gala dinner.

AARP Foundation formally launched the Women’s Leadership Circle last April to identify, create and support programs and initiatives for women to address the opportunities and challenges of aging. The WLC leverages the philanthropic power and passion of women to improve and enhance the lives of all women as they age.

The AARP Foundation is AARP’s affiliated charity. Foundation programs provide security, protection and empowerment for older persons in need. Low-income older workers receive the job training and placement they need to re-join the workforce. Free tax preparation is provided for low- and moderate-income individuals, with special attention to those 60 and older. The Foundation’s litigation staff protects the legal rights of older Americans in critical health, long-term care, consumer and employment situations. Additional programs provide information, education and services to ensure that people over 50 lead lives of independence, dignity and purpose. Foundation programs are funded by grants, tax-deductible contributions and AARP.
