AARP Comments on National Passenger Rail Service Budget Cuts

Source: AARP Press Center | March 15, 2005

Many older Americans rely on passenger rail service for family visits, leisure and business travel. AARP believes this service is a vital part of our transportation system. For those reasons, AARP joins a bi-partisan group of Senators led by Sen. Carper (D-Del.) as well as business and labor organizations in voicing disappointment of the proposed budget cuts, 70 percent from about $1.2 billion to $360 million, to national passenger rail service. The proposed funding level may effectively put an end to the service.
